Phillip Alvarez, NP

Phillip Alvarez, DNP is a doctorally prepared, dual-board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner caring for patients at Greenwich Primary Care in Cos Cob, Connecticut. Originally from Venezuela and a native Spanish speaker, Dr. Alvarez brings more than 13 years of nursing experience, including extensive experience in emergency and critical care medicine, along with a commitment to treating every patient with warmth,
respect, and cultural understanding.

Dr. Alvarez earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice degree after completing his Family Nurse Practitioner master’s degree, summa cum laude, at Utica University. He is dually board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the ANCC (FNP-BC) and the AANP (FNP-C). His doctoral work focused on integrating behavioral health into everyday primary care, including a quality improvement initiative that raised adult depression screening rates from under 10% to more than 85%, reflecting his belief that mental health deserves the same attention as physical health.

Much of Dr. Alvarez’s career has been spent on the front lines of emergency and critical care medicine, caring for critically ill patients in high-volume emergency departments and intensive care units
throughout New York City. He currently practices as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, where he manages trauma and critical care. That depth of experience sharpens his ability to recognize and act quickly on urgent health concerns.

At Greenwich Primary Care, Dr. Alvarez provides full-scope primary care across the lifespan, from comprehensive physicals and sick visits to long-term management of chronic conditions such as
diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, with a strong emphasis on prevention and patient education.

Beyond the exam room, Dr. Alvarez serves as adjunct nursing faculty at SUNY Westchester Community College, where he mentors the next generation of nurses. He is a member of the American Association of
Nurse Practitioners and the Emergency Nurses Association, and welcomes patients in both English and Spanish.
